Forest Web of Life: Part 1

1. Pass out a card to each participant
2. Pass the sun card the ball of string.
3. The sun reads off the back of their card and decides which element in the forest they feel the most connected to.
4. The sun holds the end of the string and passes the ball to that element.
5. That forest element reads their card and passes the ball of string to the next element which is closely connected to them as explained on the card. Each element holds onto the string and passes it to another element.
6. Once every participant has a hold on the string, move on to the second part of the activity.

Forest Web: Part 2

1. Now that every one has a part in this forest web. We are going to see all the forest elements are connected.
2. Let’s say…..

1. All the trees are cut down…(now have the Douglas Fir gently pull their part of the string). Ask the class; "Who felt a tug on their string? Raise your hand". "All of you who felt a tug on the string were directly effected by the loss of the trees".
2. The trees that fell to the ground were removed….Nurse log pulls their string. "Who felt a tug on their string? Raise your hand." "All of you who felt a tug on the string were directly effected by the loss of the nurse log".
3. Now let’s kill off all the coyotes. Coyote pulls their string. "Who felt a tug on their string?" "All of you who felt a tug on the string were directly effected by the loss of the coyote".
4. Etc….Continue to do this until regrouped by instructor for final activity processing
